John Huenneke, "A Life in Retrospect" at SDSG

Please join Spanish Village Art Center in celebrating the life of our well-loved, honored artist and friend, John Huenneke.  Your presence and remembrances would certainly put a smile on John's face, and a deep timbre in his, oh so familiar, voice.  "Lift every voice and sing" praises to our dear friend and fellow artist, John Huenneke.

Hello All,

It's been a while since the last blog, but I am back from art sabbatical, and inviting everyone to
Spanish Village Art Center's "New Members Show" at Gallery 21, located at 1770 Village Place in beautiful Balboa Park.

The show kicks off tomorrow, Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. when the gallery opens.  Regular show hours are 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily in Gallery 21.  Our "New Members Show" takes place 1/5/13 - 1/9/13, a short, but "fabulous", run so you don't want to miss it.

The artist's reception is being held on Saturday, 1/5/13 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the gallery.   Come and join the fun as we "celebrate our new members home", enjoy the art work, the refreshments and meet other art enthusiasts just like yourselves.

This is always a favorite of the Spanish Village Art Center, and gives us the opportunity to welcome our newly selected members.  A mingling of creative souls where old meets new, and visa versa.  A fun time had by all.  So, see you there.  Who knows?  Maybe you will fall in love, and take a piece of art work home that you just can't resist.  The artists of Spanish Village Art Center will surely love you for it...

"Celebrate, celebrate...dance to the music!"

Mary Buckman is "Earthbound" at SDSG

Hello All,

San Diego Sculptors Guild is at it again.  SDSG is proud to present Mary Buckman's exhibit, "EARTHBOUND", opening on Saturday, September 1, 2012 in Studio 36 Gallery, at Spanish Village Art Center.

The SDSG, as always, is ongoing and actively promoting the many talented sculptors in their membership, as well as furthering public awareness for the Arts.  Mary's exhibit promises to be another spectacular event, so you don't want to miss it.

Working predominately in clay and bronze, Mary's sculptures center around the beauty and complexity of the human form, and how it relates to "her feelings about nature and the human condition".

An evening of culture and art appreciation with wine and cheese... It doesn't get much better than that.  Join Mary Buckman and the San Diego Sculptors Guild in the discovery and exploration of "EARTHBOUND".  We'll see you all there.

Dog Days of Summer at SDSG in Balboa Park

Hello All,

Long time, no write...  Well, I am currently on art research sabbatical, and writing on the road, so to speak.  Thanks to my friend Sergey Gornushkin, who keeps me informed of happenings at the San Diego Sculptors Guild, I can send you this invitation to visit Spanish Village Art Center for a great event. You are all invited to come out on Sunday, August 26, 2012 for the annual fun event of the summer.

What better reason to come than to meet those wonderful and needy pooches just longing for love and a new nurturing home.  It's never too late to adopt or become a new owner.  These beauties will just love you for it, and probably give you a good "licking" to boot.

Great food, ice cream desserts, musical entertainment, skate performances and taking a new friend home with you... What more could you ask of "Dog Days of Summer"?  So, come on down to the Village and "Cool Off" with San Diego Sculptors Guild and "man's best friend".

Woof, woof.  I'd say we've got Rover's vote on that one!

Hello All,

Here's a headsup to more fun and excitement during ART IN BLOOM in the Spanish Village Art Center.  Our famous San Diego Sculptors Guild is kicking off their Celebration Party next Saturday, July 7, 2012 with the Grand Gallery Re-Opening of SDSG in Studio 36.  Party runs from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. Grab all the details from the info above, and get your art appreciation on.

There's never a dull moment at SDSG.  They are always creating, and always, but always interested in promoting outreach in the community for awareness of public art.  Sergey Gornushkin, President of SDSG is always on hand to greet you, and to make you welcome, as are all of the members and artists of SDSG.

Looks like a great time at the San Diego Sculptors Guild's Gallery Grand Re-Opening, being held in conjunction with "Art In Bloom".  So be there, when the party gets started...or, be square!  I think the first option wins hands down, don't you?

"Celebrate, celebrate.  Dance to the music."

San Diego Potters' Guild Spring Sale - "It's On"!!!

Hello All,

It's on right now...so, "Run, Don't Walk" to Spanish Village Art Center, located at 1770 Village Place in Balboa Park for this spectacular biannual event.  The San Diego Potters' Guild Spring Sale is running through today, June 10, 2012 on the patio.  As usual, it includes some of the best clay and porcelain art pieces you will ever see.  You can't miss it!

I ran by yesterday, and immediately gravitated to my friend, Nan Coffin's setup.  She has the most amazing sense of coloring and the "less is more" touch that I love in pottery.  I was looking for egg cups for my morning "soft cooked" eggs, and I just fell in love with her new color schemes. So pristene and bright they are, in her combinations of white, seafoam green and gold.  Just take a look at these lovelies.

As you know, there are many talented ceramists with wonderful pieces in this show each time.  We all have our favorites, of course.  Julie Brown and Rick Hernandez are always at the top of my list, but this year, Nan won hands down for my tastes.  Now if I can just get her to make those egg cups in this season's colors.  Oh well, time will tell.  But, for now, I'll settle for drooling over this lidded vessel.

Got to run now.  I want to get down there before the sale ends.  I'll be back with the nitty gritty on how the show went a bit later.  See you all there!
